Peter Francis Passaro
Peter Francis Passaro

Peter Francis Passaro passed away peacefully on May 26 at his home in Dorset, Vermont, surrounded by his family.

Born May 6, 1946 in Stamford, CT to the late Peter A. Passaro and Clementina Moroni Passaro, Peter is predeceased by his sister Marilyn Passaro.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Taimi Herman Passaro, from whom he was rarely apart; his daughter Tinabeth Passaro Burton and son-in-law Andrew F. Burton, and their children Bryn and Shea of Marblehead, MA; son Peter U. Passaro and daughter-in-law Michelle Sissener Passaro, and their children Nina and Peter of Stamford, CT; and son Christopher W. Passaro and daughter-in-law Clare Pinchin Passaro, and their children Madeline, Sophie and William of Darien, CT.

Growing up in Stamford, Peter attended Belltown School and Rippowam High School where he was a three sport Varsity athlete and still holds a school record in javelin throw. His high school yearbook described him as “seeing the world through rose-colored glasses,” and that attitude remained a hallmark of his personality throughout his life.

Peter saw the good in people, and brought a positive perspective to most any situation. After attending the University of Connecticut, Peter joined his father in the foundry business. He later applied his knowledge of metals to the mining industry, where he served as CFO, Chairman, and a longtime Director of Bullion Monarch Mining, Corporation.

He and Taimi settled in New Canaan, CT, where he taught Sunday School at the Congregational Church, spent many seasons coaching Pop Warner football, and was an avid supporter of New Canaan High School Athletics. He had an unbridled love of the outdoors and athletics, and was a proponent of the life lessons one learned on the field. When he wasn’t spending time with his family on the ski slopes at Stratton Mountain, or his friends on the golf course at the Country Club of Darien, he and Taimi could be spotted on the sidelines of their children’s sporting events where he offered quiet and steadfast support.

Upon retirement Peter moved to Dorset Vermont, pursued his love of golf and skiing, and honed his skills as a fly fisherman and bird hunter, which he enjoyed with Taimi, many friends new and old, and the companionship of his three Brittany Spaniels. As New England winters grew less tolerable, Peter and Taimi took up residence in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Peter will be lovingly remembered by his family for his strong sense of right and wrong, his belief in the value of hard work, his loyalty to family and friends above all else, and for the simple joys he found in an amusing story, a good laugh, or a meaningful conversation.

A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, May 31 at the Dorset Field Club at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory can be made to the ALS Association c/o Brewster-Shea Funeral Services, P.O. Box 885 Manchester Center, VT 05255.

On June 6th, 2018, the world lost a remarkable man, Arlington Bliss McCrum, Jr.

Bliss was born on June 2, 1932 to Arlington Bliss McCrum, Sr. and Madeline Broderick McCrum in Charleston, West Virginia. He died peacefully at home in Livingston after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, surrounded by his loving family.

He graduated from Culver Academy in 1950 and from Princeton University in 1954, where he majored in History and had the pleasure of rowing crew, ultimately in the Henley Regatta in England. He was President of Cottage Club and later President of his Class. Following college, he married Jean Palmer of Cleveland, Ohio and Blue Hill, Maine. He served our country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in peacekeeping in Germany. Upon his return he obtained an MBA from the Wharton School in 1958. He began his career in finance working at the firm of Dominick and Dominick, from which he moved on to be a founding partner of Euclid Partners, a venture capital firm in New York City. He was a member of the Princeton Club and the Lynx Club there.

On the home front, he moved to Connecticut where he and Jean raised six children, until divorcing in 1979. He then met and married, in 1981, cardiologist Dr. Marcia B. Bull who brought three more children to the family. They resided in New Canaan, Connecticut where he was instrumental in founding the highly successful Horizons program, fostering middle and high school education of underprivileged children from nearby communities. He served on the board of directors at Horizons for several years.

Also in New Canaan, he helped found and was on the board of the New Canaan Inn, a residence for senior citizens. In addition, he participated in fundraising for other local nonprofit organizations. His motto was “learn, earn, and return.” He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Country Club of New Canaan, the Verbank Hunting Club, and the Saugatuck Shores Club. He served on the board of the New Canaan Country School, and established the McCrum Fund, to help other nonprofits.

In 2004 after retiring, Bliss and Marcia moved to live full time in Livingston, Montana, raising alfalfa on their small ranch (“Mac Ranch”). He continued his philanthropic support of local organizations, such as the Food Resource Center, the Park County Community Foundation, the building of the Livingston Health Care Center, the Shane Center and educational programs for the Livingston school system, among others. He and Marcia had taken family vacations in Montana and Wyoming, following their love of nature and Bliss’ passions of fly fishing and upland game bird hunting, interests he pursued until Parkinson’s disease made it impossible for him to do so. Even then he enjoyed working in the field with his two English Setters Bea and Pearl.

He loved meeting and interacting with people and many will remember his warm smile, easy humor, and twinkling blue eyes even when confined to a wheelchair. He loved his family dearly, and derived great pleasure from country music, which he played and ultimately “plinked” on his guitar and banjo. He epitomized grit, courage and determination in fighting his illness and, remarkably, never complained.

When asked how he was feeling, his usual reply was, “never better.” His zest for life was indomitable.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Sarah McCrum Porter and her husband Richard Porter.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marcia; daughters, Hanna McCrum Henderson (Kris), Lindsay McCrum, Elizabeth McCrum, and Kate McCrum; sons, Arlington B. McCrum Ill (Barbara) and William McCrum; step-children, Kenneth Bull, Laura Bull Bailey (Michael), and Bradford Bull (Reba); 15 grandchildren and two nephews, Ned (Karon)and John Porter.

Memorial celebrations of his life are being planned for the fall in Livingston and Connecticut.

In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to contribute to the above-mentioned programs, the LHC Hospice Program, or a charity of their choice.

Online condolences may be shared at Franzen-Davis.com.

Margaret Ellen Campbell, Peggy to those who knew her, of both New Canaan, CT and Jupiter FL, and wife of the late Nicholas J. Campbell, died at her new home in Memphis, TN this past Saturday, June 16th. She left us much loved and will be greatly missed.

Born in Irvington, NY, she was the daughter of Francis and Katherine Follmer, who raised Margaret and her sister Mary in Tarrytown, NY. Throughout her young life she was very active in this town known for its revolutionary history. Upon graduation from Washington Irving High School and Geneseo State College, Peggy returned to Tarrytown to teach 3rd grade within the elementary school system. It was during this time that she met her future husband Nicholas. Following their marriage at Transfiguration Church, she and Nicholas moved to Tarrytown to start a family, and ultimately settled in Ardsley, NY. It was in Ardsley that Margaret turned her full attention to the raising of her children: Nicholas, Thomas, Stasia and Andrew. Peggy was very active within the Ardsley community where she was a member of the PTA, a den mother, a Girl Scout leader, a softball coach and occasional local politician supporting her husband’s campaign as President of the Ardsley School Board.

The family moved to New Canaan in the early 1980’s and, like her experience in Ardsley, she immersed herself into town life. Peggy just loved New Canaan. She was active in various organizations in the town including Dance Club, Newcomers Club, and Encore Club. She always enjoyed walking up and down Elm Street looking in the shops and visiting with everyone she met.

Though very active with her family, Peggy had many personal pursuits: she was an avid golfer, scoring a hole-in-one on two different occasions; learned how to ski at an age when most people were retiring; and hiked the Swiss Alps on multiple occasions. Both she and Nicholas had a bit of wanderlust, thus traveling the world seeking new adventures. The couple wintered in Jupiter, FL where both continued their passion for life, family and golf.

Margaret is survived by her four children, their spouses, fifteen grandchildren (though her angel Dylin died in 1999) and one great-grandson.

A funeral celebration will be offered at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan Monday, June 25th at 10:00 a.m.
